EQ66 Focuser slide

Hi All,

I wanted to have a go at imaging with my EQ66 tonight to try a wider field of M31. Despite having pitifull luck with my synguider matters were made worse by the focuser on the EQ66 slipping.

The scope was pointed almost straight up with the Canon attached getting focus was impossible as loosening the focuser lock allowed the tube to just slide and tightening it up made it lock.

Any ideas how I might solve this?

Focus on an star which is lower on the horizon, get it sweet, lock it and then go back to M31

that makes perfect sense. Is it a common problem? I had thought of this and did give it a go, problem is with my synguider woes (seperate thread) i have to kind of move the scope around and to do this with an eyepice the focus is way way different to the camera so it whacks it all out.

Guess i need to get my synguider working properly!

yeah very common unless you use electronic focuser which essential lock it anyway.
