Collimating an SCT. Great site to check out!

Hi to everyone. I just bought a Celestron CPC 800 in immaculate condition only 5 months old. I was woried about collimation issues with these scopes so thought I`d find out how to do it, and came across This web page. Thierry Legault - The collimation.

Seems to be a brilliant example of how to collimate an SCT.

Unless anyone knows a better way to do it.

By the way, do these scopes need doing as often as people say?

And if they do, could Bobs Nobs be worth a try?

That is a great web site.

I think you do need to keep SCT's in collimation although they tend to hold it a bit better than newtonians. Because of their relatively large secondary obstructions, as Legault demonstrates, SCT's loose contrast / resolution through even quite small collimation errors.

I found Bob's Knobs very helpful in being able to give the collimation a "no tools" tweak as I was using the scope, using a star image to test things.
