Celestron E-Lux 6mm

Recommended Posts

If any of you have any experience with this eyepiece, is it any good?

Given the low price(And sale discount), it's rather tempting to pick it up, but I'm not sure how such a high-powered eyepiece at this would would fare.

I'd be using it in a 8" f/6 Newtonian for planetary viewing, and just want to know how the detail would fare.

Thanks.

In your 8" F/6 it would give 200x which certainly should be useful for planets / double stars / the moon. The E-Lux are standard plossls - a little better than the eyepieces supplied with the scope but not hugely better.

If it's very cheap (eg: £10-£15) and fills a gap it might be worth considering. Like all short focal length plossls the eye relief will be tight. For £10 or so more you could get a used 6mm orthoscopic which would perform better IMHO.
