M31 Widefield

Hi all,

I thought i would give M31 a go with my Megrez. 26 x 100 sec at iso800... I am a little dissapointed, I planed to take around 50 sub but the camera battery ran out so I only managed 26, and 3 darks

Hi Keiran - that's some FOV!

What camera are you using? I've got dark diagonal streaks aligned top left to bottom right on the image on my laptop - what do you reckon that is?

Im using a sony a100, i did notce the too, and i dont know if tuey are something to do with the lack of darks and may be processing...

I do love the FOV on the Meg72 i think st great:)

I am going to a have another go at this agaim tonight, if the weather is good, more subs, longer exposures...

Lovely image there. It's better than my best attempt and although you're dissapointed, I would be chuffed to have a pic like that!

I sometimes get that streaking too, and I suspect that it is caused by insufficient or noisy calibration images or dodgy flats.

Thanks mike, i am pleased with it. It shows more detail than any of the other images i have taken of m31, but i was hoping to take about 50 subs, a fair chunk of darks and do a few flats... That why i was disapointed

Great effort. Looks like you have pulled out a bit more detail than I managed to in my last attempt!!!

It will be interesting if the streaks can be removed with the addition of darks etc.

Problem is toight is much warmer than last, so I think it may be a loss?
