Heq5pro Problem?

Hi All, lastnight while using my mount all aligned and tracking well it suddenly showed on the handpad that it had reverted to show synscan version no and had stopped tracking--re-align and off i went again tracked ok-maybe 15mins then it did it again anyone got any idea on what to check?

Have you checked that the power was connected okay... Maybe the direction you were slowing in moved the power cable?

Hi Kieran, i will check power supply but had thought it ok,it might be worth investing in a new power lead,

Firmware versions (early ones) did this, upgrade to the latest version ASAP

I'd go with the software upgrade but also check that your power supply is good and stable.

The HEQ5 can pull a lot of power up to around 2amps and it needs a stable 12v to work well. Get a decent battery pack or mains PSU that can kick out at least 2amps.

The other big one with HEQ5s is the power cable - get a decent lead - the ones that come with the mount are like wet string and can cause grief when it gets cold.

About 90% of the oddball problems with HEQ5s and EQ6s are down to iffy power.

Hi All have checked things over all seems ok i will however take your advice as regards upgrading power lead and software,i have just ordered a connector to allow cable of handset to connect to me lappy,thanks everyone for the input

P.s does anyone know if you can buy an uprated cable for the handset or is it a case of diy!

I can confirm the one from Astronomiser for the HEQ5 works perfectly as I have one.
