Jupitor 23rd September 2010 - I Think??

Took the following shot with my SLR Camera on maximum zoom.

I was focused on Jupitor, but am suprised at the image? the stars below the brighter object are in focus and quite sharp, but the main bright object looks mis-shapen for it to be a planet?

Any thoughts?

I can see it, but the stars are much fainter and probably don't show the fast excursions.

How big is your Zoom lens? You need 500mm min to get anything more than a tiny smudge.

It is a 500mm Sigma Lens (I just wish I had set the telescope up earlier in the evening and used that instead!)
