Complete disaster of a Crescent Nebula

Hi Guys

Something was not right during imaging the Crescent Nebula last night.

Either polar alignment or tracking effected due to slight breezy conditions.

Anyway , i took 60 subs of which i had to delete 55 of them due to star trailing !!

250px

HEQ5 unguided

350D modded

Prime focus @ ISO 800

5 subs each 60 secs

15 darks

15 flats

Stacked in DSS

Processed in CS4

This the result :)

regards

Graham

I'm going to take a guess that, if the alignment wasn't out, the scope was waving around.

The Crescent isn't far off straight up. If there was a bit of a breeze the scope will have been in it's best (!) possition to catch it. Also an HEQ5 will have been near it's limits for holding a large Newt still.

Perhaps try a bungy cord from the bottom of the scope to the tripod leg next time and see if that will tame it ? Sounds daft but hey, if it works :)

Dave.
