Talitha
While cruising around Cetus last night at 3:30am with Seymour (16"Dob), i came across something very large and smoky-looking just NE of 46 Ceti. It looked like an elliptical galaxy but there aren't any in the area that size. Experience and common sense told me it was a comet, so i made a rough sketch and checked it out after getting home at 4:30am. As it turns out, i literally stumbled upon Comet 10P/Tempel, how cool is that? If you're an early-bird, give this one a try.

Talitha
Thanks, it was a pretty neat surprise. Back in my newbie days, i stumbled upon NGC 253 (Sculptor Galaxy). Being a newbie, i hadn't the faintest idea there was anything else out there except the Messiers and thought i'd made a great discovery. What a great adventure our night sky is!
