Help needed to find SGL thread

NGC 1502

Recommended Posts

Hi all, well, I'm fairly sure I saw it here on SGL. It had a pic

of an Orion Optics dob, placed on a triangular piece of plywood

under the mount. I think the mount also had a box fitted on

the side.

I've just got an O.O. dob, & the mount works great on a hard

surface, but on grass is wobbly. I think that this is because

the centre bolt is only about 12mm higher off the ground than

the 3 plastic feet.

I've got other ideas to sort this ( higher feet ? ) but would

like to read that thread again. I've searched SGL but just can't

find it again :) so if anyone can point me, I'd be grateful :p

Cheers, Ed.

Replace the feet with locking castors. They'll lift the base up by a few inches. These twin wheel castors are ideal.

Here's a pic of an OO 14" dob with the twin wheel castors fitted. Offcuts ot 2" by 1/2 aluminium bar were used to move the castors further out for extra stability but I've since found that it's not needed for hard surfaces. Just bolting them on in place of the plastic feet is OK.
