Space is big, really big .......

A short report of a new Hubble image of galaxy NGC 4911 was posted in the news section a short while back:

I'd overlooked the report until I stumbled on the image:

Hubble Heritage

It's an amazing image in so many ways and, I feel, really brings home the size of the universe we inhabit. Each of the 100's of fuzzy blobs in the image are galaxies containing tens or hundreds of millions of stars :p

Can't help thinking of the Douglas Adams description from the Hitchhikers Guide ..... "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space." :)
