Just a taster of who we have this year

Our first speaker in Sept is Dr Lucie Green, who many of you will know from numerous TV and radio appearances. Her work on solar physics at the RAL in Oxford is known to all in the scientific community, and we're honoured and proud to have her as our opening speaker for what is going to be an amazing season.

Other highlights include

Dr Chris Lintott - needs no introduction at all, but for those who of you who live in a cave...he is the co presenter of the BBC Sky at Night TV show, and one of the key people from the Galaxy Zoo Project. Brilliant in person, and one of the most charming individuals you'll meet.

Paul Abel - Likewise, Paul is a presenter on the Sky at Night and his sketching skills are legendary. He also is a member of this forum

We'll be posting more up with dates as they come around. www.wasnet.co.uk is our website, which is due for an overhaul soon for directions and maps. We meet first Tuesday of every month, teas and coffee's and biccies are provided, as well as lots helpful members to answer any and all questions. We're affiliated with Beckington and Swindon societies, and our members get a free trip to an astro site of interest and a BBQ each year.

Looking forward to seeing some new members to add to our growing list.

Closer, this coming Thursday

Dr Lintott is an amazing speaker. I saw him once at Croydon Astro and he had the entire audience riveted for 2+ hours.

You probablu know this already, but he can be quite clumsy (and I mean this in a nice way), so move anything fragile out of his way before he starts!

Shame Wiltshire is a bit too far for me.

And we also welcome the return of Dr Emily Baldwin soon after in 2011.

Remember also that members of Wilsthire Astronomical Society have special access to our observatory site in Spain, which has a 14" Intes Maksutov telescope in a motorized dome, with a huge range of Atik and SX cameras, as well as additional scopes by Televue/Borg etc. We also have an annual BBQ and away day which for members is practically free (this year was the Space Centre in Leicester).
