Foil spacers in refractors no longer used ?

Recommended Posts

There was a thread on here a few days ago about the lack of foil spacers in the objective lens of a C100ED scope. I've recently acquired a newish Celestron 102mm F/5 achro refractor and that does not appear to have the spacers either.

I'm assuming that an alternative way of separating the lens elements is now being used, at least in the Synta-produced refractors - I wonder when this change was introduced ?.

I know that imagers have moaned for years about the effects that the spacers have on images so it's good news for them.

I noticed the same in the Celestron 102... I assumed they had replaced the foil spacers with a narrow plastic ring??

I haven't pulled it apart to check.

The collimation, when checked with the Cheshire, looked good and the imaging is OK, so why touch it?
