Grey morning & afternoon, then a sharp but severe late afternoon thunderstorm followed by a temporary clearance which allowed observations to be made. Transparency was not good but the seeing was surprisingly steady in view of the obviously unstable air.

A mature southern hemisphere active area is rotating into view:

1642 UT. Solarscope 60, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

1725 UT. WO FLT 110, Lunt solar wedge, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

1702 UT. Lunt 60mm, B1200 CaK diagonal, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

This spot is the only white light feature on the disc.

In the north east there is a minor active area which contains an interesting filament:

1641 UT. Solarscope 60, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

There are numerous filaments on the disc, with notanle concentrations in the north east

and north west

Lots of small prominences, the most notable were a low bright active group on the NW limb

and an attractive faintish group on the SW limb

Transparency poor with interruptions from drifting mid & high level cloud. Seeing moderate with some boiling. Temperature 20C, wind SW force 1-2.
