Comet C/2009 R1 McNaught + faint tail

Recommended Posts

I've been imaging this comet since May 23rd but last night I dragged my kit into a position where I could autoguide on it.

A low comet approaching naked eye brightness, R1 McNaught is a tricky object to capture due to a balancing act between getting a bit of additional altitude and the onset of morning twilight. Here it is from the morning of 5th June, 11x 4 minute exposures autoguided on the comet's head. The final image has been processed to bring out the faint tail at the expense of over-exposing the head.
