Solar Activity 11 May

Another cloudy morning with a clearance at lunchtime ... the Sun was also pretty similar to yesterday, blank in white light again.

Sun-100511-1213-CaK.jpg

1213 UT. Coronado PST CaK, prime focus, DMK41

The only significant active area on the disk is AR 11068, now just west of the meridian; even that looks a bit more placid than yesterday

1227 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

1253 UT. Lunt 60mm, B1200 CaK diagonal, x2 barlow, DMK21

There are significant prominence groups in the SSW and ENE

1242 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

Sun-100511-1244-Ha-promENE-X2.jpg

1244 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

and a very nice brightish "spike" in the NNE

Sun-100511-1240-Ha-promNNE-X2.jpg

1240 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

The N limb filaprom is also still present:

1237 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

Transparency very good but some interruptions from drifting cloud. Seeing moderate, significant boiling both large amplitude low frequency & small amplitude high frequency. Temperature 12C, wind N force 2-3 occasionally 4.

Nice one Brian

You are tempting me with the Cak

I managed to see the tower prom and the filaprom and one or 2 others

the active area did show a marked bright centre

Then I was called in from play to carry on with the kitchen cupboards

Superb pictures on an interesting topic. The sun has a big imput on another hobby of mine , radio. The more sunspots the better ( well mostly :) ) for long distance contacts around the globe. Today i heard Thailand, Indonesia as well as lots of EU countries on the air.

Hopefully the solar minimum is behind us and we`ll get better conditions from now on in to the max.

Cheers,

Will.
