ir cut filter?

Recommended Posts

I don't know exactly what's in your Celestron filter kit, but I doubt there's be anything of much use. All of the filters in there are likely to be fairly strongly coloured, dye-in-glass types - which means you're going to get a strong colour balance issue - and dye-in-glass filters tend to transmit quite strongly in the infra red anyway, whatever tint they appear to be.

Get a proper UV/IR blocking filter.

Till then - stick to targets which are high in the sky - prismatic dispersion in the atmosphere is the most likely thing which a UV/IR blocking filter will improve, and there is little of that at high altitudes (none at the zenith).

If you're using a short focus achromatic refractor (which has chromatic aberration) a minus violet filter will probably help your images too.
