Solar Activity 02 Feb

Seem to be having a run of 20 minute lunchtime solar sessions recently - I'm not complaining but a longer session would be nice!

Let's start with an overview in calcium light.

2010 Feb 02, 1243 UT. Coronade PST CaK, f/10 prime focus, DMK41.

The remnants of AR 1041 are now rounding the limb, whilst AR 1043 is in decline, with only one spot remaining. There is no evidence of other activity on the visible side of the disc.

AR 1043 in white light shows that it is reduced to a single spot, though this is medium sized & has a distinct penumbra.

2010 Feb 02, 1247 UT. 80mm f/6 refractor, x4 Imagemate (f/24), Baader ND5.0 solar film & continuum filters, DMK21.

The reduced activity of this AR is also evident in hydrogen alpha:

Prominences: Very interesting, though there is no significant activity around the limb associated with AR 1041, there is interested and varied activity in three areas.

a) A bunch of faint but tall and active prominences on the east limb:

2010 Feb 02, 1258 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/16, DMK 21.

:) A low prominence with interesting "layered" structure on the NW limb:

2010 Feb 02, 1259 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/16, DMK21.

c) Last but by no means least, a very bright prominence on the NE limb:

2010 Feb 02, 1257 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/16, DMK21.

Cloud closed in, preventing me from obtaining close up images of the active areas in CaK. I would like to have followed the obviously active prominence on the east limb, too.

Transparency variable, good at times but with some drifting high & low clouds. Seeing moderate, sharp but with constant boiling. Temp +6C, wind W force 3.

[Apologies for late posting. I was otherwise occupied in the afternoon & got sone clear sky in the evening!]
