Software Recommendation

Well, I'd class software as equipment.....

Stellarium is an open source free package that I found to be great on my laptop. Less overheads than SN, and while not as feature-rich as SN, for object hunting in the field I found it very good.

It has some 120,000 stars from Hipparcos and brighter NGC's, and skinnable landscapes and images of the Messiers (you can replace with your own).

Anyway, I found it a most usefull addition last couple of nights
