Hi, others with more experience will probably be more help, but my understanding is that it all depends on the type of imagimng chip the webcam has. I think that it has to have a CCD chip rather than a cmos sensor.

I bought a webcam looking and sounding just like that one and found that it was actually a "Quickcam 3000 for Business". It was totally the wrong camera compared to the one I was expected from the list in the previous mail from Scott. I wanted to make the SC1 long exposure modification and found that it had none of the prerequisite chips inside.

How can you check?

Is the webcam different looking ?

Yeah, the 'real' Quickcam 3000 PRO is a little spherical thing, between the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball.
