Am i doing something wrong ?

The Telrad comes with it's own mount. The mount is fixed to the telescope tube via strong adhesive double sided tape, so you can position it where you like. The main Telrad finder then is clamped into the mount with retaining screws. I tend to have mine on the opposite side of the telescope tube to the standard supplied one, that way no matter where the scope is pointing I have access to at least one of the finders.
