Compatibility & Confused

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know whether the SkyWatcher stainless EQ5 or EQ6 tripod legs are compatible with a Tele-Optic Giro DX (mkll)?

I am confused because I have seen so many EQ5/EQ6 tripod legs & mounts. Are they all the same?

I phoned Anthony McKewan (whom I purchased the 'Giro' from) and he says he used to use it on EQ5 legs.

Thank you in advance.

As far as I know, current EQ5 and HEQ5 tripods are the same ( 1.75" legs) I believe the EQ6 has 2" legs. Earlier EQ5's had 1.5" legs.

So, that just adds to the confusion really! If you post your location, someone close by may have a mount and be able to help more.

I think the EQ5 and EQ6 tripod tops are of a different design which is what matters - I'm not sure that the latter will fit the Giro. The Celestron CG5 tripod however combines the 2" legs with the EQ5 type top so ought to work with the Giro I would have thought.
