Frist shot at a Galaxy

Hey guys havent been on for a while (clouds/school/air cadets) meaning not much time for obserbing. clouds cleared last night

so i got a couple of hours in and manged to get the newt on M109 in ursa major as my first atemped at a Galaxy. not much throught the eye pice but with averted vision got the outline of the Galaxy stunning to say the least. i would have try Andromeda but a dam street light is right under it:mad: so im going to wait a while untill it is higher in the sky i will let you know when i get a chance to see it.

M 81 and M 82 in Ursa Major usually show up quite well - especially M82 (cigar galalaxy) which is edge on so is brighter. NGC 891 is another edge on spiral (in Andromeda) which fits into the FOV much better than M 31.

i always like to look for andromeda with the naked eye.

They all sound good i think i might try and see the M109 tonight.. if it stays clear and maybe get some more data on the M27 and M57
