Help needed with 3/8 lens support

Hello, I have bought a pretty heavy prime lens that has a 3/8 female thread for supporting it (not the lens-camera interface). Unfortunately, my tripod quick release plate has a 1/4 male thread, as does my reflector ring. Has anybody had this issue and how do you solve it?

There's this

Yup - thread adapters are OK, a dab of vaseline before you use it though or it may become permanent!

The problem with the adapter plate is that it means that there is a smaller contact area.

... and you have also reminded me that my new tripod head is 3/8 - I just got these 330344002505 from Ebay - brass ones so less chance of them getting stuck. Not bad for a pair delivered I thought.

Thanks for the replies! I worry that the thread adaptor is not going to go in all the way (vaseline or no) but I guess I have to suck it and see.

Theres normally a cross cut in the top so you can screw them in... watch you dont overtighten whatever you screw into the adaptor as they can end up opening up like a spring... but you have to be pretty brutal to do it...
