EQ6 Tracking

If I have an EQ6 set up (reasonable but not perfect polar aligned), and I tell it to goto some object, does it track the object by continuous adjustment of both the RA and Dec motors, or just the RA motor?

Without guiding, it will just track in RA but you do need an accurate polar alignment. If you are perfectly polar aligned and autoguiding, it will just track the object in RA but atmospheric disturbances, wind etc. often mean DEC corrections are made as well.

I have never really understood why they don't move the Dec as well (or at least give you the option to do it). In principle, once you have done a 3-star align, isn't all the necessary information in the handset to know how the Dec has to move? Yes, you get some field rotation but some folks might not mind this.
