Realtime video - Aurora Borealis peak activity 4K - 11-10-24

Recommended Posts

Hello, yet another aurora media clip from the clear peak activity during the night of 10th October.

This however is 4K realtime video, not dayglow edited, long exposure, noise reduction or anything, just as from camera and multiple clips cut together, mostly of the N, NW and W, please excuse the lens flare, it's why I don't image E and this was a wide lens. This is similar to how it looked visually for those that missed it, just a bit darker than the higher ISO the video was recorded at (imagine the background sky of space is more black, the green becomes very faint, the red becomes a very deep almost dark burgandy red but with the intensity of a deep vivid red - thats the best I can describe it, it'll likely look very colourful and vivid from a dark site).

The solar activity was quite active from the late afternoon. When setting up my imaging rig I saw it quite strong in the NW from the horizon to around 30 degrees altitude, a green central body fringed with red highlights which disappeared within 10-20 minutes. Then most of the north and west was green (but only really via camera, visually it did look different from normal). Then around midnight it just exploded and you could see lines appearing and disappearing in reds and greens (which I find is more difficult to see). It went on for around 30 minutes and was a stronger burst than the aurora on 10th May.

So please enjoy.
