2" Diagonal On My Nexstar Evo 8

Recommended Posts

Hi again folks.

I've asked this question before, but I could do with a bit more clarification, so please indulge me.

I am looking at the possibility of kitting my new scope ota with a 2" diagonal and visual back.

The question is, what is the actual size/diameter of the hole in the back of the ota? I've tried finding out, but to no avail.

Does anyone else know?

If the hole in the back isn't 2" then there doesn't seem any point in going 2" as there will be no benefit to the amount of sky that is visible.

Thanks for your thoughts

Malc

I assume you'll be using a push fit with compression ring clamping. The simplest method is you screw off the existing visual back, then replace with a 2 inch adaptor which terminates with a 2 inch female hole with a compression ring, your 2 inch diagonal then fits into this. It's what I do with my C6, part is easily sourced.

The hole in your OTA is perfect for using 2" diagonals and eyepieces.  They won't vignette.

The thread on the back of your OTA is a 2" SCT thread.
You screw off your 1.25" visual back and replace it with a 2" version.

Something basic like this...

Or something fantastic like this...
