My first real attempt at lunar imaging

My impetus for joining this forum is related to this image here.

 

This was taken with my Nikon D810 with a 200-500mm lens.  It was one of several I took that night trying to see what I could do when the plane flew across the face of the moon.

It has re-ignited my interest in astrophotography hence my recent joining.

Based on my experience this year with macrophotography, I just need to practice and maybe I can justify a decent telescope and related gear.

Better get your kit ready for the total solar eclipse in a few month’s time. Looks like a pretty decent focal length you have for such an opportunity there.

Thats why I am starting to work on it now.

As a note, that image is pretty heavily cropped. Hopefully I resurrect an old Ultima 2000 by then.

300mm is a pretty good focal length for totality to get corona and sky around around it.

I will keep that bit of knowledge tucked away for the upcoming eclipse.
