Flare issue with modified Canon 6D

Hello all,

I recently bought an astromodified Canon 6D (only LPF 2 filter removed). Finally had the chance to test it out 2 days ago after a whole month of miserable weather. However there are some noticeable problems with the images:

There are some flares at the bottom of every image, please see attached images, I have circled them in blue. I am sure it is not environmental light, lens flare or zodiacal light as these flares exist in both tracked and still images at the same spots. These flares are still quite prominent even after correcting white balance.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Any advice on solving this? I have contacted the seller so hopefully will get to the bottom of it.

The consistency of the location points to an internal issue. I assume you've taken images in portrait and landscape and the issue moves 90 degrees accordingly? And you've also tried with different lenses? You could also try taking a few long exposures pointed at a blank wall or even dark frames to see if it shows up.

The 6D doesn't have any internal leds that could cause this, at least not on mine.

You have the camera's eyelevel finder window blanked off ?

Run Elp's tests with the current lens, and then with another.

What happens if you take a long-exposure dark frame - first with the lens on and secondly with the lens removed.

My main suspect here would be light entering the viewfinder window. SLR cameras block this off as best they can when the mirror swings up but it's not always very reliable and it can diffuse through the pentaprism a bit.

Why would light leaking through the viewfinder be purple?

I'd say because a Ha modded camera's spectral response has been skewed towards the red end of the spectrum, I don't know that I'd call it purple.
