M101 Supernova

Went looking for this tonight...

 

and compared to a year or more ago...

 

It's in the upper arm.  Need to make a GIF of these two!

Just making a quick image now. Some high level haze but the SN looks very bright now, so bright I thought it was a foreground star at first.

I thought "M101 Supernova" sounded strangely familiar - just dug out an old image of SN 2011fe I took back then. M101 has been busy recently (on a galactic timescale at least!)

Really quite interesting to look at this old image knowing that the star that's just gone pop had just under 12 years to live...
