Astronomy themed pub in Goostrey, Cheshire

Visited the Space Invader pub for lunch today. It’s across the fields from Jodrell Bank. Images of the Lovell telescope and Sir Bernard himself are on the signs. Inside there are pics of the telescope at various stages of construction and a few old optical scopes. Excellent fish and chips and pint of beer

Unrelated (but sort of related): I went to visit the Greenwich observatory in the summer last year, and my take away memory from it was overhearing a boy, maybe about 12 or so, saying to his dad "why is at all clocks? I thought this about space!" I probably laughed about that for about 20 minutes. 

To be fair to him though, there were a lot of clocks...

I popped into Jodrel Bank just a week ago on the way to the Yorkshire Dales. Closed for the day to casual visitors! Very disappointed. What a sight though when the large dish appears behind the hedges!  Had also tried the U-boat in Birkenhead; also closed! Ended up in the Avro Heritage Museum which was very interesting. My grandfather flew an Avro during his training before flying under Squadron Commander Dunning off HMS Furious.

That pub looks fabulous, I'll remember it for next time thanks.

I went to Jodrell Bank on a school science trip back in the late 70's and remember having a great time. They had a steerable radio telescope to play with from inside the science center and a planetarium. Never went to the pub though as I was about 11 years old at the time.

Used to be the Red Lion, but we always went to the Crown (if drinking in Goostrey).
