aGent V4 webcam - Is it any good ?

I've been testing out the above webcam, as it has been mentioned on a number of threads as a possible for use instead of the SPC900.

I got to test it out last night. It's very easy to convert, and the casing carries heat away very nicely, especially at night. but...

Whilst the framerate and resolution are good, there is no way to control the gain, making it effectively useless. I didn't even bother to capture an AVI with it. After setting it up and trying to adjust for the moon, whilst I could get some nice detail along a thin strip of the terminator, the rest of the moon just washed out in white.

Ah well, I've got myself a very nice little PC webcam I can use anyway .

This is good to know John as quite a few people were thinking of these as a astro webcam.

... It was worth a try, as I said, I've got a decent desktop webcam out of it, once I've reassembled it that is. It's someone else turn as chief guinea pig on the next one.

I'm still interested in an alternative to the SPC9000. The few that do turn up for sale will eventually go, and there will be no more...

As you say worth a try. It'll work as a very respectible normal webcam though. Someone elses turn, who'd like the webcam testers Batton ?
