Celestron C80-ED suitable as a guidescope?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm currently using a canon telephoto lens and a 2x teleconverter (giving 400mm) for guiding with a QHY5 camera. This works well but it's a pain when I want to use the lens for daylight photography!

Looked at the ST80 type scopes (nice and fast at F5, 400mm) but thought it would be good to have an APO type refractor for widefield (compared to my 10" LX90 OTA) imaging.

As the Celestron is F7.5 600mm, just wondered if this would be too narrow a view for picking up guide stars, compared to a F5 -F6 type scope?

The 600mm though is getting close to the LX90 with F3.3 converter, which means I could sell the converter to help fund the c80!

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich.
