How to work out where to mount things?

Hi All,

Is there a 'correct' method in working out where things like your motor controller, cables, etc. should be mounted if you want to fit them to your OTA without them snagging or hitting other parts of the mount? Obviously there's the trial and method way which often isn't 'correct'...any tips from anyone would be warmly received.

As long as balance is maintained and there's enough slack on any cables to allow free movement, I think trial and error is the order of the day.

A good balance is the key. The rest is a matter of how tidy you want your rig to be.
Although my mount would handle it, I’m one of those who doesn’t like putting stuff on the OTA, so I put everything I can in the mount.

Mike is quite right, it is a case of trial and error. 

You also have to remember that you try it out with the accessories in different positions with the scope pointed to different altitudes.
