Astronomical Societies - Brisbane AU

Hi all.

I’m just getting into the hobby and was looking to join an astronomy society/association.

I’m just outside of Brisbane Australia and there appear to be four that cover my area:

Astronomical Association of Queensland

Brisbane Astronomical Society

South East Queensland Astronomical Society

Redlands Astronomical Society

 

Does anyone have any experience with, or information about these associations that might help steer me towards one?

For example, do any of them have specific focuses, etc?

Hi Gallandro,

There is a forum member named John who does (or did) viewing sessions and presentations for his club around Brisbane area.

You might like to contact him for info, his forum handle is @cletrac1922.

He hasn't been online since 5 August however so hope he's okay.

I would suggest that you go along to one for a few meetings and then try others if you think that the first one is not for you. Most societies allow you to attend a few meetings before you need to join.

Just to add; if they don't meet on the same night go to as many as possible for a few meetings each and then decide which one to join.
