Synscan V5 firmware update

Dear friends 
The new hand-controller synscan v5 instead of a power port has a usb port. I want to update firmware. Is usb enough for the parallel power supply and data transfer  or it must get power from the base ? It is not clear according to manual...

Page 4 fig 1.1 shows the base of the handset. From the manual " USB Port: Communicates with a PC via USB interface. Power the 
SynScan hand control for updating firmware." The handset can be powered from the USB port for firmware updates.

Thank you very much for your response!! In Sky Watcher's site there is only manual for V4, I couldn't find it anywhere. Thank you ! 

One last question. I must update with the latest version, is that right? (Even if i have skipped some updates)

Since you appear to have the latest handset, there should not be a problem. ( Generally speaking, you may or may not be able to skip the intermediate upgrades, and the latest version may not install on old hardware. ) Also note there is no "must" about firmware upgrades, unless you have an issue and the small print for the upgrade says that it will fix it.

Most household appliances now contain firmware. When did you last upgrade any of them? 🙂

I have the telescope one year. It is a new SW Dob with v5 handset. I have never updated it. From the first version, there are three consecutive new update releases until today for SW dob v5 GoTo handset. Telescope works well until today. So you suggest keep the files and update it whenever an issue arise ? And in such case update it one by one from the latest release to the newest ?
