hi guys,

been ages since i got out to do anything due to having a baby back in august and first time imaging from my bortle class 8 garden tonight due to the lockdown. Captured the Orion Nebula with my canon 550d on an ioptron skyguider pro with a 130mm lens at f4. pretty happy with the result. Considering modding the camera so it can detect more of the Ha but not ready to break it yet lol

Canons don't do well at low iso, for that camera 800-1600 is better for IQ

That’s an interesting comment.

I’ve been using 200 -400 ISO as a base for the Canon 450D when doing spectroscopy.

Why do you thing 800-1600 is more appropriate???

this is the lowest ISO i have used other than photographing the moon. i was going to use ISO 800 but where orion is in the sky, it sits in a big glow from birmingham. example below.

single frame ISO 400 30s 

single frame ISO 400 60s (not sure why the belt stars have a weird halo after converting to jpeg)

to me i figured id get better results shooting ISO 400 than 800 unless i do 15s subs to get rid of the light pollution. any feedback on that would be great
