Binocular tripod adaptor

Recommended Posts

I have Celestron Skywatcher 15x70 bins, and just bought the Celestron RSR  tripod adaptor to mount them on either my monopod or tripod. When I screw the adaptor nut into the binoculars it doesn't tighten them 100%, they can pivot on the bolt, to the point gravity will cause them to tilt. This doesn't seem to matter when I've been using them on the monopod so far, but is it intentional? Removing the washer to give more travel doesn't help.

A neoprene washer might help increase the grip as it gets compressed. If I recall the opticron bracket I have has one so holds the regular bins I have nicely and they don't tilt. Don't have any large 15x ones tho but a washer may help,

One thing you might want to try is carbon paste (available from a bike shop), it's something used on bicycle seat posts to provide grip in the frame tube but also prevent the carbon from jamming.  It's sort of like a coarse toothpaste texture, so it might introduce very light scratches to paint work where the adaptor is screwed to the binoculars but if that doesn't bother you then worth a shot.  I have some already so might just give it a go, my binoculars do the same thing (there is already a neoprene / nylon washer).
