How do I correctly fit my bresser mikrokular full HD webcam

Hi 

 

I have an astromaster 130eq and I'm after advice of viewing with my bresser mikrokular webcam. This may seem silly but if I say want to view the moon or Jupiter or Saturn,to get the focus right would the webcam need to be further out of the 1.25 eyepiece hole or further in to gain focus as it's all very blurry and can only focus on close things like trees or a nearby roof. I'm probably not explain myself properly.its been cloudy skies here for over a week so can't get to practice with it. This is used in a prime focus method I have tried inserting the webcam in as far as possible and as far out as possible with a barlow lens but still can't achieve focus

If near objects focus correctly with the camera, then for subject at infinity you will need the camera further out ie further from your objective lens. If you can tell me approximately how far away the trees/roof are, ie the distance that is in focus, I can calculate how far out you need to move the camera from that position if that helps?

16.00 pm. Edit - sorry that's tosh! For subject at infinity eg planet, the camera will need to be closer to objective, so further in!

So if object eg tree at 100m is in focus, for infinity the camera will need to be approx 4.2mm closer in. Hope that helps! (And hope my maths is better this time)

Hi thank you for your reply, I will try again to get the webcam closer into the focus tube but will only go so far in before it won't be clamped by the thumb screws, I will try again with the camera as close as I can get it in, would attaching a barlow x2 help if I can't get it in far enough

I will let you know how I get on, plenty of others seem to get it working ok, it could be just me but there's no real explanation online only mods of normal webcams

I have an image from my webcam now, I was using it on my windows tablet and was seeming over exposed due to being in the day light, so I've switched to my laptop and altered the exposure and now have an image of fields around 10 miles away and the focus tube is only a little way out, its a bit blurred but it's there(could be to do with the heat haze and that it's low on the horizon) I have the webcam in an old barlow lens holder without the lens in it and pulls the camera out far enough, so when there are less cloudy skies I will try it in the moon and see how it fairs. Maybe the image will be sharper once its dark and able to get infinity. There is only a little window between going in and out of focus but I've read that could be to do with the webcam as they are like looking through a high power ep

Hi, I'll have to wait to try the webcam on the moon, probably not until Sunday night as that's when clear outside are saying it's good. Hope will lose the blurred images and be sharper when trying to focus infinity at the moon and planets, as I usually use my celestron nexyz smartphone adapter and had some good results this way, just wanted to try a webcam to see if its better. Yes have a good view from here but mostly south to east, where I live in Delabole Cornwall (bortle class 3) is quite high above sea level near Bodmin Moor and have extremely long views in good conditions
