I don't see why there should be a problem with the 120MC-S.  The earlier USB2 120MC can be a bit awkward though.  What are you planning on using it for?

start with moon and planets & see how I get on, then perhaps some of the brighter M objects

I think it should work well for the Moon and planets (and the Sun if you want to try some white light imaging).  Depending on the OTA you're thinking of using you might be a bit limited with the field of view for deep sky work.  Could be worth a go on some of the globs though, and perhaps the Dumbell and Ring nebulae though I suspect you might need guiding for those.
