Star Adventurer Accuracy Check

Recommended Posts

Just bought a Star Adventurer, and looking forward to using it. The polar scope is out of alignment out of the box, but I see how to fix that despite the less than clear manual. This forum already helpful there.

I ran an accuracy check with a laser pointer on the wall, and if I understand it right should come back to the starting point after 23:56:04.

Instead, it took 24:03.

So either I'm unclear on the time it should take for a rotation, or I've got a motor that is 7 minutes slow.

I'm wondering if that disparity is large enough that I should worry/warranty, or if I'm just off on understanding. I figured I'd start up a new thread since the last I find on this is years old.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm- it's touch and go I'd say.

By my maths (not always my strong point) in a 1 minute sub it should be covering 902" and your model is doing 898".

The max pixel scale I have with my SA kit is around 4" so it's right on the limit.

However, I suspect that might be within practical tolerance (your polar alignment, unless perfect will probably cause at least the same error) - and they'd probably say they've already given you a solution with the option to guide.

Was the test performed with batteries or mains power?

Thanks for replies. I’d imagine in the short term my alignment will be a bigger issue, but thought I’d best check now rather than find out down the road that I also had quality probs.

Either way it’ll be an upgrade over 18sec exposures!
