Meade LX70, want to ad motor drive and go to

Recommended Posts

I am new to Astronomy and I bought a used Explorer Scientific Comet Hunter and a Meade LX70 mount. I would like to add a motor drive and go to on it but Meade discontinued the motor drive. Doeas anybody know of a different motor drive and go to that will work on the LX70 mount?

Any of those synta single or dual axis motor drives all work.

The Orion dual axis drive will add tracking to your mount, but not goto. For that you will need the Synscan EQ5 goto upgrade kit.

It should fit fine. As Peter says, it's not GOTO but it is a useful upgrade to the mount.

Be careful with the DEC motor - the cable connector for that motor is rather exposed and can get knocked and broken easily.

I decided to only make it motorized. I put a Sky-Watcher EQ6-R on layaway.  Once I get it I will put the Explorer Scientific on it and use the LX70 for my camera and a different telescope.
