I think that is due to the poles being fairly well cratered and (at first glance) one crater is pretty much the same as another crater, so you are just seeing a slightly different crater field.  Probably didn't help that I had it set to display the entire disk. Might have been clearer if I had zoomed-in a bit.

The longitudinal libration is much clearer, because you've got Mare Smythii clearly visible half way down the right hand side of the top image (with libration), but practically invisible on the bottom image (without).

Are you familiar with the Virtual Moon Atlas? If the moon is your "thing" then it is a great tool for planning one's observing sessions and getting the more difficult "libration features". The images above are screenprints from it.
