Last night under very good skies (for GB) I tried for the super novae in UGC 5072 and 7744. Both are type 1a and magnitude given as approx mag 16. The SN in 5072 was easy and comparing to nearby stars must be in the region of mag 16. The SN in 7744 not picked up -uhmmm.

Used C9/Ultrastar, at f5, UGC 5072 - 11 x 15sec subs, UGC 7744 17 x 15sec subs.

Attached are cropped images. Not had a chance to see what the visual folk are getting.
