EQ5 star align not working

Thats sort of what I did, as I said my finderscope was very accurate, so in most cases I could see the star Im pointing at with 10mm eyepiece, but in case I couldn't I find it I went to 25mm and then 10mm and 3.6mm. I doubt I looked at the wrong star as most stars I looked at were pretty lonely, and being dead center with 2x barlow and 10mm eyepiece at the wrong star seems like a very unlikely coincidence to me.
