Been out tonight with a mate looking at the sky. very clear night but light pollution is a pain in the *beep*.

Took my mini laptop out with stellarium and a compass, wow so much easier to find stuff in the sky than using my planisphere!!

Just a quick question, as you look straight over head, there was a slight haze in the sky in a line, is this the milky way? sorry if I'm not explaining myself very well!

Oh yes, that was the Milky Way - an amazing sight from a dark location. Look again next time it is clear and see if you can see the cleft as it passes through Cygnus which is almost overhead (slightly to the West now). It never fails to impress me!
