FF/R question

I have a SW ED80, how much difference is there between the SW FF/R and and the altair astro one for an 80ed? the altair is £70 cheaper. would it work with the SW ? would i be sacrificing much if i usedd one over the SW model?

Do not take this as gospel, but most likely no difference.. it might be like my Hisch f6.3 FR for my 8" SCT and comparing to a mates Celestron f6.3 FR.. exactly the same but hirch was less than half the price.

Im hoping if the focal length matches then it should be ok. just depends on how it connects i guess. i think the AA one has an m48 thread so i'll have to see how that fits into the image train on the SW.

Is anyone here using this combination? Does anyone know if an adapter exists to go from the AA flattener to the SW focuser?

It should just push into the 2inch draw tube clamp you will need a m48 tring as well.

What i'm hoping for is a fully screwed together image train. just wondering how this would work with the SW ED80 focuser

Think you will need a M56 female on the telescope side of the flattner  and whatever the thread is on the flattner.

as far as i can make out the flattener has a male m48. is there such a thing as a female m48 - female m56?

This is the right question. Manufacturers offer a range of  focal lengths and focal ratios when they make reducers/flatteners but how well they work in a particular scope is anybody's guess. I would want hard evidence that x flattener will work in y telescope with z chip size before I splashed out. If the target were the Pleiades I'd be happier still because internal reflections can be the very devil.
