Orion white light refractor.

I've just seen this advert in AN magazine. Anyone used one? Looks more convenient than taping a filter to the end of my cheap refractor and worrying about pinholes etc!

It’s just a standard cheap refractor with a glass solar filter stuck on the front and a poor focuser.  You can easily buy an Orion glass filter and fit it to you scope.  Not bad although the Baader film is a bit better and a few small holes in the film isn’t dangerous anyway. 

I think something like an Opticstar 80mm refractor and a glass filter would be far better. Decent optics with a proper crayford focuser. Bit more expensive yes but would be a much better setup.

Skywatcher seems to use something similar to the Orion in their video for the SolarQuest mount.

Skywatcher and Orion are part of the same company although Orion is mainly in the US and Skywatcher in Europe.
