NGC 6441

NGC 6441 is a globular cluster in the southern constellation of Scorpius. The cluster is located 5 arc minutes east-northeast of the star G Scorpii, and is some 44,000 light years from the Sun. 

G Scorpii also named Fuyue has an apparent magnitude of +3.19. It is approximately 126 light-years from the Sun. G Scorpii is an orange K-type giant which is about 16x bigger than our sun.

They form a nice juxtaposition. I guess the exposure time is what makes the orange star look whiter than the cluster?

Am more curious about the purple  star to the 9oclock from the cluser, never had something come out purple like that before.

Hi Adam

The purple star comes from the ASI 071. Its how the bayer pattern detects it. Not much I can do about.

Great image. At first glance it looks like a fuzzy companion to G Scorpii. You've got some lovely star colours in the image as well.
