EQ3/5 aluminium tripod top clamp dimensions?

I'm  pondering a small DIY project (lightweight grab 'n go) by fitting a new mount, which I've just come across availble 2nd hand, to a an EQ3/5 aluminium tripod.  The embarrassing problem I have is that my old aluminium tripod is not here but in a caravan miles away! I'm wondering if some kind soul with an EQ3/5 ali' tripod could measure the distance across the top central leg clamp. From raking around looking at various articles on the net, I think it must be somewhere around 30-32mm but these ali' tripods vary somewhat so it would be good to know for sure. I can then decide whether to proceed of forget the whole idea. Thanks.

No progress on this and thoughts have moved on to a different angle on matters, so project shelved, perhaps indefinitely. Thanks to all that looked.
