The Milky Way, the Moon and a lighthouse.

Recommended Posts

Or the light from a lighthouse anyway!

Just spent 5 days at Mullion in Cornwall on the Lizard Peninsula. The weather was mostly poor so not much astronomy done but I did manage to run down to the lighthouse for a few MW shots in a surprise clear spell.

I'd have preferred to do it when there was no moon but actually this makes quite a nice shot I think and it shows how dark it is that with the moon and a lighthouse going full beam (that's the reflection in the shot) you can still grab some MW detail with one 25s shot at ISO 1600.

I have one with the lighthouse in the frame too but it's rather bright so I need to work out what to do with it still! I've also got some MW frames to stack that were captured nowhere near the lighthouse. I'll post those later.
